Swedish household appliance magic

Electricity cost:

Download the ‘Say Watt’ mobile app, select electricity area 3, and bam, you’re in business. It looks something like this:

Try and run any appliances only when the price is low. Low being 0.5 SEK or cheaper, but for free if possible (see picture). Check the graphs for today and tomorrow, the differences may be significant!

Dishwasher:

  • Press the ‘On’ button on the left
  • Press the ‘P’ button to choose the program as indicated
  • Press the clock button (3rd from the right) to choose the delay to run when electricity is cheap. You can choose a 2, 4, or 8-hour delay. Or ignore the button if you want to run right away.
  • Press the right button to start the dishwasher
  • When ready, the machine will play a tune and open the door
  • Wait a while before clearing out the machine so the content gets a chance to dry

Don’ts:

  • Don’t place high objects in the bottom drawer!
  • Make sure objects in the top drawer will not fall down and block the spin washer!
  • Cleanup any oil or grease that’s left on frying pans with household paper!
  • Do not put oily dishes in the machine or rinse them off with water!

Washing machine:

  • Fill the machine, but leave space on top of the laundry!
  • Stick one detergent tablet in between the laundry for:
    • White laundry (text: WHITE)
    • Colored laundry (text: BLACK)
  • Turn on the machine with the top right button
  • Select ‘Daglig tvätt‘ with the round button
  • Select the temperature with the leftmost button under the display:
    • 40 for clothes
    • 60 for underwear, socks, towels, and bedding
  • Press the lower right Start button to start the machine
  • The display will show the time it takes
  • When ready, the machine will play a tune
  • Ready!

Centrifuge:

If the laundry is still quite wet after washing, use the centrifuge to remove excess water:

  • Remove half the laundry content from the machine
  • Turn on the machine with the top right button
  • Select ‘Centrifug‘ with the round button
  • Press the lower right Start button to start the machine
  • The display will show the time it takes
  • When ready, the machine will play a tune
  • Remove the laundry and run the same program for the other half you took out earlier
  • Ready!

Dryer:

  • Fill the machine. Max capacity: half the laundry from the washing machine
    • If you put in too much, it will not dry!
  • Turn on the machine with the top right button
  • Select ‘Varm luft’ with the round button
  • Select the time with the second button from the left under the display:
    • 60 for underwear
    • 90 minutes for towels and bedding
  • Press the lower right Start button to start the machine
  • The display will show the time it takes, but the machine will stop if it is dry earlier
  • When ready, the machine will play a tune
  • Ready!

The dryer filter:

At the bottom of the door opening, there’s a filter that needs cleaning:

Clean the filter after each round of drying!

  • Move the laundry away from the door so it doesn’t fall into the filter slot!
  • Lift out the filter
  • Flip it open with the knob
  • Clear out the dust and debris
  • Close the filter
  • Place the filter back into the slot
  • Ready!
  • Never run the dryer without the filter installed!
  • Be gentle with the filter, it’s a little rickety!

Some free household appliance tips:

  • Fill only one machine at a time and wait till that has dried before you run the machine again. There’s always next day!
  • There’s a drying rack:
    • upstairs.
    • downstairs that can be hung on the door.
  • Run the machines at night when the tariffs are low and you’re not disturbed by the ruckus they make.
  • Only run the machines when you’ll be home for a while!
