Manual – Using

Here are some hints to the use of the apartment and its content.

AC or heating:

  • The AC/heater unit will work on all rooms but is controlled centrally by the thermostat mounted on the wall apposite to the fuse box.
  • When using the AC or heating, close all windows and sliding door as well as the kitchen door. Press the on button on the thermostat and perhaps adjust the temperature with the arrow up and arrow down button. Do not choose a too low temperature as this may be impossible to accomplish for the unit. So at a temperature of 30 choose 25 for the thermostat and not 19.
  • The heater can be selected by choosing the sun symbol with button A when you open the lid on the thermostat. The snowflake symbol chosen with button A represents cooling.
  • Do not run the AC all night. Instead run it for an hour or two in the evening and then switch it off and run the ventilator in the bedroom during the night.

Windows:

  • The apartment doesn’t feature curtains, instead you can lower the shutters!
  • When opening a window, slide the mosquito net frame to cover the opening!
  • The sliding mosquito net frames may require gentle persuasion…

Kitchen:

  • Bin and liners: left door under the sink.
  • Washing and cleaning chemicals, brushes etc: right door under the sink.
  • Stove: the buttons are located in the glass plate. Note that the glass plate will get hot! Also, please use the kitchen ventilator! Turn off stove after use and clean after cooling down. Let the ventilator run a bit longer to get rid of cooking aromas.
  • Microwave: put your food in, cover with the plastic cover, press the start button, the oven starts running. Now press the start button again for every minute you’d like to add. After use, keep the door open too vent out any moisture. Clean inside, and the cover, when cooled down.
  • Oven: press both round buttons so they pop out. Put your dish in the oven and close the lid. Choose program with the left  button and temperature with the right button. Clean inside when cooled down. Pop the buttons in again.
  • Dishwasher: fill to capacity, put tablet in compartment inside of the door, close door properly. Now press far left button once so the lights come on, press button on the right ‘inicio’ and the machine starts. Wait for it to finish, then open door slightly to let moisture out before emptying.
  • Tap: up is cold water, down (towards you) is warm to very hot water.

Appliances:

…hot air oven

…3 plate ceramic stove

…dishwasher

Washing room:

  • Washing machine: fill to capacity with compatible items. Throw in a washing machine tablet (different kinds for white and color!) and close the door. Open the drawer on the upper left, add softener in the middle of the drawer – if required. Press the on button on the upper right. Choose your program with the round button, the default program should do the trick just fine. Then adjust your temperature with the left button under the display. You can adjust the length of the program with the next button, the chosen time is shown on the display and mostly works fine. Now press the run button (located on the right directly under the on button) and the machine starts washing. The machine plays a little tune when ready. After washing, you can dry the items on the drying racks you can find in the washing room. You can put them on the roof terrace and another on the balcony. Pegs are on the washing machine and you can carry your laundry up in the blue IKEA bag.

Living room and kitchen:

On the floor in the living room and kitchen areas small square boxes have been placed. These are to scare off the ants. Please leave them in place where they are.

  • The cupboard in the smallest bedroom also stores bed linnen
  • Towels, large and small, can be found in the cupboard in the master bathroom

Restocking:

Please replace whatever items you have depleted prior to leaving. Restock washing and cleaning chemicals preferably with the same brand as before.

Spare keys:

Inside the left door of the cupboard opposite the front door, there’s a small wooden key box:

Inside you’ll find the spare keys as well as keys to the shed in the basement and the bicycles stored there.

Bicycles:

In the shed in the basement you’ll find two bicycles, one bigger and one smaller size. The keys to their locks are stored in the key box in the apartment, see previous paragraph.

…number 16, right on the corner.

There’s a foot pump in the shed in case the tyres need some extra air.

The easy way to get the bikes out is to carry them up the stairs and park them locked at the bottom of the apartment stairs.

Supermarkets:

  • DialPrix, walking distance around the corner
  • Lidl, Consum and Aldi, other side of town
  • Mercadona, under construction as an Aldi neighbor
  • More smaller shops are spread within walking or biking distance all over town
