At the end of your stay, the apartment has to be put back in sleep mode. This involves the following:
1. Take in stuff
Balcony: All furniture from the balcony must be taken in. The chairs and drying rack can be folded and stored in the washing room, the glass table can be left in the living room.
Roof terrace: The cushions from the roof terrace must be stored in the shed on the terrace. Close the doors, make sure the roof is locked and lock the handle with a tierap.
The chairs must be stacked up and covered. Also stack up the stretchers. Ensure the awnings are in (closed) and secure. The final result will look like this:
…and this:
Any drying racks that have been used on the sun terrace or balcony must be folded up and placed in the utility room.
2. Cleanup
Vacuum all rooms thoroughly, any food left will attract insects.
Beds: Remove the linnen from the beds you’ve been using. Neatly fold and put the bed linnen in the laundry bin in the washing room. Put the gray bed covers over the beds.
Bathrooms: clean toilets, sinks, and showers thoroughly, clean the glass shower walls and sweep the floors. Close the toilet lids.
For kitchen and bathroom goes: if you use up anything, make sure to refill it.
3. Kitchen:
Remove any leftovers from the kitchen, cupboards, fridge, and freezer. The fridge/freezer will stay on when you leave, so suitable and unopened food items can be kept there. Only non perishable goods may remain in properly closed packages and only unopened non perishable bottles or cans can be left in the fridge.
After this, clean the inside of fridge and freezer and remove the bag from the bin under the sink. Make sure both fridge doors are properly closed.
Do not leave any used items in the dishwasher. Instead, wash them by hand before you go.
4. Battery operated items:
Remove the batteries from clock and thermometer (including the outside unit). Leave the thermometer and outside unit as you found them on the bar.
5. The water:
Prior to closing the water mains, flush both toilets and wait for the reservoirs to fill up again. The water mains tap is in the the corner of the utility room:
Now close the water mains, remember: righty tighty or clockwise! Open the cold tap in the kitchen to verify the water has been closed properly, then close the tap again.
6. Washing room:
Now that you’re here:
- Close and lock the door to the stairs to the roof terrace, leave the key in the lock
- Close the door to the washing machine and pull down and zip up its cover
- Put the laundry bin on top of the washing machine
- Leave the washing room and close the door behind you, leave both door stoppers (🐧) on the metal wine rack
7. Shutters:
First close all windows in all rooms as well as the sliding doors in the living room!
Then close all shutters in all rooms including the smallest bedroom and the one behind the front door. They need to be closed so that no light comes through them. Let the shutters down in a gentle manner.
Sometimes, the shutters need a jiggle to get them going. Use no force but gently pull and let go again.
8. Finally:
Make sure that all bedroom doors are held open by the door stoppers. Have the bathroom doors half open.
Open the front door and put your suitcases outside.
Make sure you have the keys on you!
Shut off the electricity, but leave the indicated switches on…
…Gently push down all the not-marked breakers. The one marked ‘KK’ is the fridge. That one, and the other marked switches stay on. The apartment now goes dark.
Do a final check that all is dark, make sure you got the key in your hand, roll your luggage out, step outside, and close the door behind you. Then lock the door with the key (two turns).
You now have put the apartment in sleep mode! Have a good trip home!
